About The Healthy Cook

Hello! Welcome to The Healthy Cook!

I am Evi and I live in Athens, Greece. I would like to say a few words about the journey I started by creating this blog.

I love food. I love trying new recipes, cooking for friends, reading about it, chatting about it and of course tasting it! To cook for your loved ones is a way of showing how much you care, and there is nothing better than the smile on their face when they approve one of your recipes. What you wish for your loved ones is to be fed properly and have the best possible health.

I believe in a healthy and balanced nutrition and not on extreme diets.  A few years ago, when I realized how harmful all these processed foods, that are supposed to make our lives easier, are, I decided to follow a more balanced diet, avoiding as much as possible processed foods that do more harm than good . The food is not only delight, but is also the most natural way to get the nutrients our body needs. So we have to be more careful and choose intelligently what we put on our table. I’m not an expert in nutrition, but I am reading a lot, attend seminars and do as much research possible, for the foods I choose.

Eventually, I decided it would be nice to share this tasty journey with others; and this is how The Healthy Cook was born. The place where I share with my readers healthy and mostly low calorie recipes, with as much as possible, unprocessed ingredients. Here you can find recipes for breakfasts, snacks, quick meals and desserts, recipes for vegetarians and vegans (because I love vegetables), fasting, and recipes with meat and fish. In each post you will find nutritional information for basic materials, but in the  “Nutrition” category you will see that there are articles devoted to particular foods and their beneficial properties.

Having worked at an airline for about two decades, I have tried food from almost all corners of the globe. I like to “mix up” recipes from various cuisines, but my favorite are the Mediterranean, and especially Greek cuisine. I like spices, ginger, lime, coconut, nuts, yogurt, legumes and other materials that you will discover by reading my posts.

And because, as I said earlier, balance is everything, I leave room for a dessert now and then, since pastry making is my big love. I thing I mostly enjoy the entire process of creating a dessert, than tasting it when it is ready. In the “Small Sins” category you will find recipes for desserts, for those difficult times we all experience now and then …

My love for cooking is so great that I decided a few years ago to go back to school and study in a Culinary School. I finished my studies in 2018.

My aim is to prove to all of you that a healthy and balanced diet is neither complicated nor boring. It is a very interesting and tasty journey, which I hope you enjoy with me!
