I think this is the absolute summer drink! Watermelon, coconut and lime juice in a glass that smells summer! it is ready in two minutes and it is a real pleasure!
Watermelon’s benefits
If you are one of those who believe that watermelon contains only water and sugar, you’re wrong. Watermelon provides 17% of daily needs of an adult in vitamin A, 21% vitamin C, 2% iron and 1% calcium. It also contains thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B 6, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, choline, lycopene, and betaine.
150 grams of watermelon contains 43 calories, 0 grams of fat, 2 grams of sodium, 11 grams carbohydrate (including 9 g. Sugar) and 1 gram of fiber.
Watermelon consists of 92% water and it is rich in electrolytes, while it’s an ideal food to prevent dehydration. Moreover it reduces the risk of developing asthma, it helps lower blood pressure, helps in the correct operation of the arteries and protects against heart disease. Watermelon also contains citrolline amino acid, which our body turns into an essential amino acid, arginine, which significantly contributes to the proper functioning of our cardiovascular system.
Due to the strong antioxidant action of vitamin C, but also other antioxidants contained in watermelon may help to combat the formation of free radicals that are known to cause cancer.
It also contains vitamin B6, which contributes to the synthesis of brain neurotransmitters as it contributes to better mental and psychological health; thus, it contributes to the synthesis of serotonin, dopamine and melatonin.
The fiber contained in watermelon help in proper bowel function. It is a good source of fiber, which helps bowel movement, while contributing to the prevention of colon cancer. Rich fiber makes it almost prohibitive for patients with irritable bowel syndrome.
Vitamins A and C help in healthy hair and skin. Adequate intake of vitamin C is also necessary for the construction and maintenance of collagen. Watermelon also contributes to overall hydration, which is essential for healthy skin and hair.
So have this in mind: Watermelon is not fattening, it strengthens and beautifies. 🙂
I put the watermelon in the freezer for 1-2 hours before making the juice. I do this with all the fruits that I use for juices and smoothies during the summer in order not to use ice cubes that will water the juice. I suggest you do the same, it’s really practical!
